Hydrotherapy
What Is Hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy is a form of clinically prescribed exercise performed in a heated pool, supervised by a qualified health professional. The water environment reduces joint load while still providing resistance, allowing people to move more comfortably and safely.
When delivered by an Exercise Physiologist, hydrotherapy is:
- Individually prescribed
- Closely supervised
- Progressed based on your goals and ability
- Designed to translate improvements into everyday function
Benefits of Hydrotherapy Exercise
Hydrotherapy offers a range of physical and functional benefits, including:
- Reduced joint load and pain
- Improved mobility and flexibility
- Increased muscle strength and endurance
- Improved balance and confidence with movement
- Reduced falls risk
- Improved circulation and relaxation
- Increased exercise tolerance
The buoyancy of water supports the body, making it particularly beneficial for people who experience pain, stiffness, or instability on land.

How an Exercise Physiologist Assists with Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy at Coordinated Fitness is delivered by university-qualified Exercise Physiologists accredited with Exercise & Sports Science Australia.
An Exercise Physiologist will:
- Complete a comprehensive assessment
- Design a tailored hydrotherapy program
- Select appropriate exercises for your condition
- Supervise technique, intensity, and safety
- Progress exercises as strength and confidence improve
- Ensure exercises align with your functional goals
This clinical supervision ensures hydrotherapy is safe, targeted, and effective, not just general pool exercise.

This structured review process supports long-term outcomes and confidence with movement.
